Increase Website Conversions
Every month, thousands of people run a Google search looking for ways to increase website conversions.
In a world where ads are getting more expensive, extracting higher conversions from ad clickers becomes mission-critical.
If you follow Google content around the topic of Increase Website Conversions you’ll find dozens and dozens of recommendations.
But if you ask me, as someone who has been in the conversion optimization business for 15 years, I’d ask you to focus on only 2 metrics:
1: First visit conversion rate
2: Time on site for new visitors
First visit conversion rate reveals your site’s ability to greet new visitors, present the elevator pitch with supporting evidence, and convince those new visitors to buy right away.
It’s the tide that lifts all boats. Get 10% better at converting first time visitors and email signups and retargeting ads will also improve.
Similarly, the time on site for new visitors matters because if you can get new visitors who were previously leaving in 18 seconds to stay 28 seconds it’s evidence your updated pitch is resonating.
This produces a domino effect. People who were staying 18 seconds now stay 28, those staying 56 stay 66, and the group that was close to buying crosses the conversion line.

Once they’ve consumed your pitch, prospects can be placed in 1 of 3 groups:
— Ready to buy
— Will never buy
— Interested, but need a little more convincing
The 3rd group has the biggest revenue potential.
